Trends come and go, but your style and how you feel in your clothing can last forever. Only buy clothing that you love, that fits you like a glove, and that you feel amazing in. Many trends each season don’t carry over well to everyday life–look for classic twists on trendy items to incorporate into your wardrobe.
Biker: Leather pants, motorcycle boots, buckles, and subtle padding or quilting on leather jackets.

Trend: Biker | Photo: fashionising.com | Designer: Burberry
Do:
+Mix and match traditional and trend to make this style work for your wardrobe. Try a classic piece such as a crisp white or trench coat style shirt with a pair of leather pants–perfect to add a little “edge” to your look.
+Add a belt at your natural waist. It is a great way to accentuate an hour-glass figure or creating an illusion of one if you have a straighter figure.
+Invest in a great motorcycle jacket with simple details. It will never go out of style and is a great addition to anyone’s wardrobe.
Don’t:
+Wear all things “biker” at once. Keep it simple and wear one or two things with edgier details.
+Invest in a pair of leather pants. Think about the cost-per-wear and if the purchase is worthwhile.

I recently put on an event in Boulder, “How to look hot and stay cool for Summer” featuring dresses, shoes, and accessories from Common Era and how to wear them for day and evening. As I left Denver for Boulder, I realized two of my tires were dangerously low. So, decked out in a halter dress, I pulled into a gas station and filled them up!

I even had a very nice gentleman stop and ask me if I needed any help! I’m pretty sure the dress helped with that offer and I definitely stayed nice and cool!

Knowing what you already have and what you need is the most cost-effective way to shop and can save you time when you are shopping.

1. Clean out your closet so you can see exactly what you have to work with. A lot of women gravitate for the same thing over and over again while shopping- all black pants, all solid shirts, all patterned clothes, and you can easily see a trend once you pull everything out of your closet.
2. Make a list of items you need to fill in the gaps in your wardrobe. You may only need to purchase a few things to make your wardrobe work for you. You make a list of items you need when you go to the grocery store- why wouldn’t you do the same for your wardrobe?
3. Only buy the things you LOVE and make you feel amazing. Many women buy clothing that isn’t right for them. They decide before they even try an item on that they are going to purchase it because they love it on the hanger. This is a costly mistake. You buy it, take it home all excited, and then it hangs in the closet. Every time you put it on- there’s something just not quite right about it. The key is to try everything on to see how things fit on your BODY, not the hanger.
4. Invest in classic clothing, pieces that will never go out of style, in neutral colors. You can easily update these pieces with fun and exciting accessories such as necklaces, earrings, bracelets, shoes and handbags at a fraction of the cost of buying new trendy items each season.
Tip from the Pros: every new purchase should relate back to at least two items in your existing wardrobe. You can create multiple outfits by combining new and old items and avoid “stand alone” pieces that don’t go with anything else.

As soon as you set the date and location of your wedding, get started looking for the dress of your dreams. “The dress” will set the tone for your entire wedding: the feel, the formality, and the entire wedding party attire. Here are a few tips to make finding the dress of your dreams a little less stressful:
1. Create a vision board. Start by looking in bridal magazines, websites, blogs, and wedding photography sites. Create a vision board by cutting and pasting all of the pictures you collect. Look at the shape, neckline, materials, details, headpieces, jewelry and overall feel of all of the pictures you find- you will start to see a theme of dresses and styles you are drawn to.
2. Set a budget. Decide how much you (or whoever is buying the gown) want to spend. Be clear. Is the amount set aside just for the dress? Does it account for alterations? Make a list of everything you think you may need: alterations, shoes, accessories, a headpiece or veil, jewelry, and foundation pieces. Nothing is more stressful than falling in love with a gown that is out of your price range.
3. Set a shopping date. Call the bridal salon ahead of time to book your appointment. Ask a friend or relative to go with you but choose carefully. Make sure it is someone who knows you really well and can be honest but kind. Remember- this is all about you, your style, and what you love for your day, not theirs.
4. Go shopping. Communicate with the bridal shop staff about your style, taste, budget, shape, and details. Bring along your vision board and show them your ideas! They know their stock better than anyone and will get you started in the right direction.
5. Buy the one you love. Once you find the dress of your dreams- stop looking. Don’t overwhelm yourself with all of the possibilities out there. Stick with the one you fell in love with- just like the person you’re going to marry.

This is one of my favorites from my recent professional photo shoot!
If you are just starting a business, a business owner in need of an updated photo, or you are getting those fun family portraits taken- here are a few tips to make your professional photo fabulous!
Clothing- I recommend simple, solid, color clothing. Stay away from prints, stripes, characters or words. Clothing with wild prints have a tendency to distract from the most important subject in your photos, you. However, if you are like me and love prints, wear one that is of larger scale. Smaller prints don’t show as well in photos and can look a little fuzzy. If you like a certain piece, bring it to the shoot and the photographer can help you decide what will be best for you.
Color- Wear something that goes with your natural coloring. If you are unsure what is best for you- repeat a color that naturally exists for you such as your eye or hair color. These colors will always be flattering on you.
Accessories- Keep it simple and classic. If you wear a trendy piece of jewelry, your photo will become outdated much sooner than if you choose a classic necklace or pair of earrings.
Most importantly- BE YOURSELF!
A picture is worth a thousand words…make yours speak volumes about you!

Need a little pick me up this Spring? Go shopping! Yellow is one of the hot colors for Spring and you don’t have to look very hard to find it. Every shop I’ve been in lately has a nice selection of yellow clothing, handbags, accessories, and shoes.
Not everyone is a big fan of yellow clothing and it can be a hard color to wear. However, if you want to add little sunshine to your wardrobe- you still can. Introduce yellow in small bits and pieces such as a handbag, bracelet, or a fun pair of shoes.
Remember- your accessories don’t have to match…they just have to “go”.
